How to play interval ear training
- Press Play to hear two notes. Choose whether they rise, fall or sound together.
- Name the interval — the distance between the two notes.
- Each interval has a famous tune that starts with it. Sing the start of the tune and compare.
- Ten questions a round. Once you’re scoring 9 or 10, add more intervals.
Tunes to remember each interval
- Minor 2nd (1 half step): the “Jaws” theme
- Major 2nd (2 half steps): “Happy Birthday”
- Minor 3rd (3 half steps): “Greensleeves”
- Major 3rd (4 half steps): “When the Saints Go Marching In”
- Perfect 4th (5 half steps): “Here Comes the Bride”
- Tritone (6 half steps): “The Simpsons” theme
- Perfect 5th (7 half steps): “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star”
- Major 6th (9 half steps): “My Bonnie Lies over the Ocean”
