Waltz strum (3/4)

Three beats to the bar: a bass note on 1, then two strums — “oom-pah-pah”. Use it for waltzes, many folk songs and ballads in 3/4 time.

How to play it

  1. Count “1, 2, 3” — bass on 1, strums on 2 and 3.
  2. Make beat 1 the strongest; beats 2 and 3 are lighter.
  3. Once it’s steady, add upstrums on the “&” after 2 and 3.
  4. Start slowly — around 60 BPM — and only speed up once the pattern feels automatic. Use the chord loop to practice changing chords without breaking the rhythm.
