Guitar Tuner
Tune your guitar with your device’s microphone: standard tuning, drop D and other common tunings, with reference tones to tune by ear.
–
Tap “Start tuner”, allow the microphone, and play a string.
Tap a string to hear its reference note. With the tuner running, it follows whichever string you play. New to alternate tunings? See the guide to guitar tunings, with chords for each.
- How it works
- Allow microphone access, then play one string (or note) at a time. The needle shows how far sharp or flat you are.
- Private
- Sound is analyzed on your device and never recorded, stored or sent anywhere.
How to tune a guitar
- Start the tuner and play one open string at a time, letting it ring. Begin with the low E (thickest) string.
- The tuner shows which string it hears. If the needle is left of center the string is flat — tighten it slightly. Right of center is sharp — loosen it.
- Always tune up to the note: if you go past it, drop below and come back up. The string holds its pitch better that way.
- When every string is in the green zone, play a chord you know and listen — then check each string once more, because tuning one string slightly changes the tension on the others.
