6/8 strum

Six quick counts per bar, felt as two big beats — “ONE two three FOUR five six”. The rolling, lilting feel of many ballads, folk songs and slow rock songs.

How to play it

  1. Count six, stressing 1 and 4: “ONE two three FOUR five six”.
  2. Down on 1 and 4, with lighter strums in between.
  3. The tempo here is in big beats (two per bar), so it sounds slower than the number suggests.
  4. Start slowly — around 60 BPM — and only speed up once the pattern feels automatic. Use the chord loop to practice changing chords without breaking the rhythm.
