Down-up eighth notes

Down on every beat, up on every “and” in between: eight even strums per bar. Your hand moves like a pendulum — down on the numbers, up on the “ands”.

How to play it

  1. Count “1 & 2 & 3 & 4 &”: down on the numbers, up on each “&”.
  2. Upstrums are lighter: brush just the top three or four strings.
  3. This pendulum motion never stops in any pattern — later patterns just skip some of the strums.
  4. Start slowly — around 60 BPM — and only speed up once the pattern feels automatic. Use the chord loop to practice changing chords without breaking the rhythm.
