Bass-strum (boom-chick)

Pick a single bass note on the beat, then strum the chord: “boom-chick, boom-chick”. Alternating between two bass notes is the classic sound of country and folk guitar.

How to play it

  1. Pick the chord’s lowest note on beats 1 and 3, and strum the rest of the chord on 2 and 4.
  2. On the second “boom”, pick a different string — usually the next string up — for an alternating bass.
  3. Keep the strums short and light so the bass notes stand out.
  4. Start slowly — around 60 BPM — and only speed up once the pattern feels automatic. Use the chord loop to practice changing chords without breaking the rhythm.
