How to play Daug

About the D augmented chord

Playing it

On guitar, Daug has an open-position shape, xx0332, using three fingers alongside the open strings. Don’t strum the low E and A strings.

On piano, Daug has two black keys (F♯ and A♯) and one white key.

On ukulele the usual Daug shape is 3221, using four fingers.

Related chords

Daug is symmetrical — its notes are evenly spaced — so F♯aug and B♭aug contain exactly the same notes. There are only four different-sounding augmented chords in all.

Move a single note and Daug becomes a different chord: lower A♯ to A for D.
