How to play Dsus2

About the D suspended 2nd chord

Dsus2 is Dsus4’s softer cousin: the open E replaces the F♯, giving an open, ringing sound heard all over acoustic pop.

Playing it

On guitar, Dsus2 is one of the friendlier shapes: xx0230 needs just two fingers and lets the open strings ring. Don’t strum the low E and A strings.

On piano, Dsus2 sits entirely on white keys.

On ukulele the usual Dsus2 shape is 2200, using two fingers.

Related chords

Dsus2 contains exactly the same notes as Asus4. Which name fits depends on which note is in the bass and what key you’re in.

Move a single note and Dsus2 becomes a different chord: swap E for F♯ for D, raise E to F for Dm, swap E for G for Dsus4 and add F♯ for Dadd9.
