About the B major 6th chord

Playing it

On guitar, B6 has an open-position shape, x21102, using four fingers alongside the open strings. Don’t strum the low E string.

On piano, B6 has three black keys (D♯, F♯ and G♯) and one white key.

On ukulele the usual B6 shape is 1322, using four fingers.

Related chords

B6 contains exactly the same notes as A♭m7. Which name fits depends on which note is in the bass and what key you’re in.

Move a single note and B6 becomes a different chord: drop the G♯ for B, raise G♯ to A for B7, swap G♯ for A♯ for Bmaj7 and lower D♯ to D for Bm6.
