How to play G5

About the G power chord chord

G5 shows the power chord in its movable form: root on the low E string’s 3rd fret, 5th and octave on the next two strings. Slide the same shape to any fret for any other power chord.

Playing it

On guitar, the usual G5 shape is 355xxx at the 3rd fret. It has no open strings, so it’s a movable shape — slide it along the neck for other power chord chords. Don’t strum the G, B and high E strings.

On piano, G5 sits entirely on white keys.

On ukulele the usual G5 shape is 023x, using two fingers.

Related chords

Move a single note and G5 becomes a different chord: add B for G, add B♭ for Gm, add C for Gsus4 and add A for Gsus2.
