How to play A5

About the A power chord chord

A5 is the second open power chord in rock, built on the open A string.

Playing it

On guitar, A5 is one of the friendlier shapes: x022xx needs just one finger and lets the open strings ring. Don’t strum the low E, B and high E strings.

On piano, A5 sits entirely on white keys.

On ukulele the usual A5 shape is 2400, using two fingers.

Related chords

Move a single note and A5 becomes a different chord: add C♯ for A, add C for Am, add D for Asus4 and add B for Asus2.
