How to play Fm(add9)

About the F minor added 9th chord

Playing it

On guitar, Fm(add9) is most often played as a barre chord across the 1st fret (133113). While you build strength, you can play just the top four strings of the same shape (xx3113).

On piano, Fm(add9) has one black key (A♭) and three white keys. In root position it spans more than an octave, so many pianists play the root with the left hand and the rest with the right.

On ukulele the usual Fm(add9) shape is 10-8-8-10, using four fingers up at the 8th fret.

Related chords
