How to play Fsus4

About the F suspended 4th chord

Playing it

There’s no open-string way to play Fsus4 on guitar with the root in the bass, so the standard shape is a barre across the 1st fret (113311). While you build strength, you can play just the top four strings of the same shape (xx3311).

On piano, Fsus4 has one black key (B♭) and two white keys.

On ukulele the usual Fsus4 shape is 3011, with a small 2-string barre at the 1st fret.

Related chords

Fsus4 contains exactly the same notes as B♭sus2. Which name fits depends on which note is in the bass and what key you’re in.

Move a single note and Fsus4 becomes a different chord: lower B♭ to A for F, swap B♭ for A♭ for Fm, swap B♭ for G for Fsus2 and add E♭ for F7sus4.
